The Ginger Martini to Die For

I came up with this drink idea while visiting Shira Anthony. She makes a scrumptious ginger syrup and I suggested it would taste amazing in vodka. I’ll try mixing just about anything with vodka, with mixed results (pun intended). This is one of the best things I’ve come up with. If you make it, tell us what you think!

EM’s Ginger Martini

Ingredients:

1-1/2 ounces vodka
1-1/2 ounces ginger syrup (recipe below)
Squirt of lemon juice
Ice

Put the ingredients in a martini shaker and pretend you’re Tom Cruise in Cocktail. Pour into any glass. Garnish with a slice or two of ginger from the syrup jar.

Sip. Smile. Repeat.

You can vary the proportion of vodka and syrup to your liking.

Shira Anthony’s Sweet & Spicy Ginger Syrup

Two large ginger roots, about 6-8 ounces total
3 cups of water
2 cups of sugar

Peel and slice ginger into about ¼ to ½-inch slices. Put sliced ginger, water and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, and reduce to a simmer. Let it simmer until it’s about pancake-syrup consistency, stirring occasionally.

Cool the syrup in the saucepan. If you find it’s too thick as it starts cooling, heat up a little (not boiling) and add more water to get to desired consistency. Cool again. Pour into a jar (including all ginger pieces) and keep refrigerated.

This tastes great on pancakes and waffles, too.  You can probably figure out other uses.

This sounds so Yummy! I was browsing some recipes yesterday and saw something similar. Thanks for posting this super easy recipe! The Ginger syrup sounds like something I could use quite often in my kitchen. I Love the flavor of Ginger and instead of drinking soda, I go for Gingerale instead. Have you seen the recipe for Ginger Beer? It also sounds Yum and I want to make some at home.
