Anakin Winchester, where are you?

Is it just me, or are pen names of late getting a bit too… well, fanciful and possibly even ridiculous?

I’m not talking about a name like Cat Grant,  which pairs a “personal” element or interest of the author with a standard everyday surname; or Jen Bluekissed, which combines a simple first name with a play on the author’s real surname.  (Hopefully they won’t mind me using them as examples…) But say we had “Cat Bluekissed,”  that would be a bit over the top, wouldn’t it?

I’d rather not name real names, but I’m starting to see names where neither word is even remotely a name or they are bothtaken from something quite obvious.

Do you judge an author on their pen name at all? Does a name indicating the author enjoys something you also like pique your interest? Or might you shun a too-fanciful name?
