POLL: "Fan mail" from readers

It's been a while since I had a poll here, so today's the day.

I'm doing a little bit of research into authors' fan mail for a blog post and I'd love to get feed back from both writers and readers about this topic. I'm concentrating on letters or emails from readers to writers that they don't know. Many authors are now very accessible to readers via the Internet and I'm curious if that is leading more readers to contact authors.

I'm also hoping to encourage readers to contact their favorite authors by reminding them how happy a letter from a reader can make an author.
