Book of the Day Cover

Bedknobs & Beanstalks

by EM Lynley

An erotic collection of m/m fairy tales!

Once upon a time. As children, those four words told us we were about to enter a brand-new world: scarier, happier, more enchanted than our everyday life. No matter our own particular expectations and experience with fairy tales, we knew we were in for a wild ride. Handsome princes would save beautiful damsels in distress and the ogres never got the girl.

Perhaps in our own stories, or in our own lives, we aren’t quite satisfied with those happily-ever-afters. What sound-minded prince would choose any of those airheaded bosomy blondes that populate familiar animated versions of the original, much darker, and more ominous tales made famous by the Brothers Grimm?

Not to mention, fairy tales were often used as bedtime stories.

Well, put all that behind you and prepare for a new type of fairy tale. Not only are they guaranteed to get you into bed. though not for sleep, you won’t find a single of those old-fashioned stereotypical characters.

Instead enter a world where a magic cock ring can grow into a mighty peenstalk, or an unhappy shepherd can meet the sexiest wolf imaginable. A Japanese youth with the strength of a bear finds himself weak in the face of a beautiful samurai, and a young man in a ball gown can charm a prince to distraction. These are but a few of the adventures that await you, once upon a time!

It certainly felt that way when I tried to get out of bed this morning.

I got home late last night after a far-too-eventful journey home. I went to bed almost right away. Turns out my slightly sore throat and stuffed sinuses weren’t due to talking too much or allergies. I’m definitely coming down with something. Lack of sleep over the 5 days I was gone didn’t help, and I’m still not caught up.

The good news is that I had a few hours while I was gone to put the final touches on BEDKNOBS & BEANSTALKS and I sent it off to Ravenous. Just one more round of edits to get back and I hope to hear about the release date in the next week or so.

I’m reading angels/demons stories intermittently while I crank out the last couple of chapters of RARER THAN RUBIES which is due in a couple of weeks. It’s in pretty good shape but I’ll still have to work my butt off on that.

I’ll post about my trip soon, but right now, I feel like crawling back under the covers! I had a fantastic time and met some great new people as well as seeing old friends.

big castleI’m looking for stories based on traditional fairy tales, but with a Lesbian slant. Here’s your chance to spice up some favorite childhood tales in a way you’ve never seen before, but always wanted to tell the story! Feel free to use non-European tales as a base. Here are a couple of great resources for inspiration: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fairy_tales and http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/talesindex.html

All stories must have an erotic element, with a preference for romance over pure erotica. That means there should be a relationship between the characters beyond merely a sexual one. The sex should have emotion and I want to feel that along with the characters. These are fairy tales so there should be HEA or HFN, whichever is more appropriate for your story.

Please look carefully at the submission details and be sure you send all the required information.

Deadline October 15, 2009. You may submit anytime before then, but I may not have a decision on yours until closer to the deadline. I strongly suggest a query in advance, with a 1-2 paragraph summary of your plotline to avoid having 10 Little Red Riding Hood stories, though perhaps that would be an interesting anthology on its own.

Specifics: 3,500 to 10,000 words. Please be sure your submission is free of typos and errors. Polish your story before sending it, please!

No rape, underage, incest or bestiality. If you have other content you feel might be questionable, email me for clarification more…

GermanCastleRavenous has been so pleased with the stories I’ve gotten that they have decided to publish two GLBT anthologies rather than one. First they’ll release one that is just m/m stories, BEDKNOBS & BEANSTALKS.

In addition, I’ll edit a second volume which will be only lesbian fairy tales. It will be titled RUMPLEDSILKSHEETS, which was the runner-up in my title contest. Some stories will shift from the original line up to to this one, but now I have room for more f/f fairy tales and a few more spots for m/m stories I may originally have had to reject. Emails will go out over the weekend for anything that has already been submitted.

I have also reopened the call for subs for lesbian stories: http://www.emlynley.com/cfs.html (I’ll be reposting the specifics here and on writers’ boards as well).

I’d appreciate if you can pass the call information along to your friends, post on your blogs, etc.

As I said yesterday, the final decisions on the FAIRY TALES will be made in the next few days. I have not made the final cut and I am still talking with the publisher about the possibility of doing 2 volumes instead of one. Nothing has changed since I posted this information yesterday, yet I’ve suddenly had a swarm of people asking about their story.

Let me clarify one LAST time about the status.

–If you didn’t get a response yet, I’m still considering your story
–please don’t email me asking about your story status
–don’t expect me to reply to your email, unless you got another offer on it and need an immediate decision
–repeated emails asking me about your story may result in my rejecting it rather than using it in the second volume
–if I sound annoyed, it’s because I’d rather spend my time working on the anthology or my novel than answering questions when I thought I’d made it clear the final decisions have NOT been made

If you don’t hear from me about a fairy tale submission by SATURDAY, AUG 15, then email to let me know.

ANGELS/DEMONS: I am hoping to start reading them over the weekend. The date for publication got pushed out and the due date for my novel is now before the anthology, so I’ve been trying to finish the novel first. I hope to start sending decision on this antho by the end of August. I will post a specific update next week after the fairy tales get wrapped up and I get some idea how long it will take to read through the subs.
