I'm planning to put up a free read or two on my website and I'd love some feedback from readers and other writers about the best way to do this.

Please feel free to comment further about any question or with other answers. If you choose "OTHER" for any question, please leave a comment about it.

Thanks in advance!

I don't have all the specifics yet so I'm only telling the flist, but my publisher just told me…

They sold print rights for SEX, LIES & WEDDING BELLS to ALYSON BOOKS!

Alyson is one of the top LGBT publishers in the US and until now they only had an erotica line. My book will be one of the first in their foray into Romance. This also means it will end up on bookshelves of gay bookstores (assuming there are any left) and libraries, and I'm just thrilled about this!

Apparently Alyson is trying to build a line similar to Running Press for mainstream gay romance titles.

As soon as I hear more specifics and release date, I will make another announcement.

I just got the art for my Cobblestone release PUBLIC EXPOSURE! Edits are completed and I'm just waiting to hear back on a definite release date.

Let me know what you think…..

BLURB: Drake Talbott is a young university professor with a big secret: he's been dating a student. Hunky, handsome Kerry Monroe isn't in any of Drake's classes, but he has a public sex kink that Drake is in no particular hurry to curb. In fact Kerry's brought out a wilder side of Drake that he never knew he possessed. When an extracurricular tryst in the library stacks nearly brings their relationship to the attention of the powers that be at the university, Drake's just not sure whether his career will survive Kerry's appetites–or his own.

I got a few nice surprises this week, and those are always the best kind. I'll not mention the not-so-good surprises this time.

On my birthday, I came home to find print copies of Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells waiting on the doorstep in one of those fun-to-receive Amazon boxes! It was very exciting to hold a real paperback copy of my book, with review blurbs on the back and everything!  It's currently around ranking 550,000 on Amazon, but the title is now spelled correctly, and I call that a win.

I won a book (Feral by Joely Skye) in a twitter contest yesterday, which surprised the heck out of me. I rarely win anything.

And today while catching up with some blogs I like to read I discovered a really nice 4-star review of my short story  "A Heat Seeking Missile" over on Reviews by Jessewave:

"This is a delightful sexual romp and if you have only a little free time it would be a nice way to spend it. Both protags were three dimensional and they seemed as real as anyone you would meet on the street. .. I would definitely recommend this story."

I'm seriously considering buying a netbook, most likely Asus 1000 HE. I don't have a laptop and I like the idea of having something portable for writing or even for reading ebooks away from the desk. I considered a Kindle for reading, but the netbook obviously has additional uses and it's in the same price range.

This model has 10-inch screen, so slightly larger keyboard than most netbooks and weighs 3.5 lbs (1.5kg), so it's lighter than most. 8 hour battery life & built in wireless/bluetooth.

If you have experience, good or bad, with netbooks, I'd love to hear your opinions, especially in terms of how I'm looking to use this. Thanks.

I got some great feedback when I was working on blurbs the other day and I want to again thank everyone that commented. It was a huge help to me!

I'm working on another blurb today for a story that's going to be in an anthology as well as released as a stand-alone, so it needs to be good enough to actually get people to buy it for its own appeal.

It's for VENUS ENVY. Here's what I've got so far:

Sancus, Roman God of Loyalty and Honesty, snubs an advance from Venus. Irate, the Goddess of Love convinces Cupid to cast a curse on Sancus. As a result, Sancus is unable to perform with women, but finds himself attracted to every hot guy he meets. In fact, he can't say no. There's only one way to end the curse, but it's up to Sancus to untangle the finely-woven threads and discover it's actually a love spell.

In this version, the love interest is mentioned:

Sancus, Roman God of Loyalty and Honesty, snubs an advance from Venus. Irate, the Goddess of Love convinces Cupid to cast a curse on Sancus. As a result, Sancus is unable to perform with women, but finds himself attracted to every hot guy he meets. In fact, he can't say no. During a week of almost non-stop arousal and sex Sancus meets Aurelio, a mortal that he actually likes enough to see again, but he's afraid until the curse is lifted he needs to stay away or risk ruining the chance of something more. There's only one way to end the curse, but it's up to Sancus to untangle the finely-woven threads and discover it's actually a love spell.

How does it sound? Too long, too short? Poorly worded?

Here's a slightly different version that just mentions a mortal, not saying if male or female:

Sancus, Roman God of Loyalty and Honesty, snubs an advance from Venus. Irate, the Goddess of Love convinces Cupid to cast a curse on Sancus. As a result, Sancus is unable to perform with women, but finds himself attracted to every hot guy he meets. In fact, he can't say no. During a week of almost non-stop arousal and sex Sancus meets a mortal that he actually likes enough to see again, but he's afraid until the curse is lifted he needs to stay away or risk ruining the chance of something more. There's only one way to end the curse, but it's up to Sancus to untangle the finely-woven threads and discover it's actually a love spell.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

This is close-locked post since I don't want to discuss this publicly or with my whole flist, but I'd like some advice on how to handle this issue.

As you probably know I had some major issues with my publisher over the original cover for my book, which had a woman on it and implied menage. This led to many m/m readers overlooking it and lost sales.

When they finally addressed the issue I got new version with the girl blacked out, because I was told they would have to re-do the cover completely and that was not an option they were prepared to do.

Well they "fixed" another menage-y cover for another book, and that one seems to have been completely re-done replacing a woman's image with a man's torso. [see below for before and after....]

What should I do? Should I ask for similar treatment? Should I question why I was told one thing and another author's book was given a better-executed and more attractive cover? Should I just shut up and move on and not work with this publisher again, given all the issues I"ve had with just this one book?

I haven't been in publishing long enough to know whether this is worth mentioning, but it's a huge disappointment about the way it's been handled.
