Welcome!

I’m EM Lynley, author of gay mystery and romance. If you like some spice in your mystery and a little extra thrill in your romance, you’ll probably like my books.

See what’s new with my writing, find out more about my books, or enjoy some free reads. If the newest post below is more than 10 days old, you’ll find more recent posts over on my blog.

November update: I’m doing NaNoWriMo again this year! I’ll try to post progress reports once a week and share more about the story. It’s about a marine helicopter pilot and a Washington DC journalist. It’s got a little bit of Scandal, West Wing and my own experiences working for the White House.

Throw Back Thursday Kind of Isn’t: Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells 2nd edition #mmromance

USA Today Love and Lust Recommendation “read this highly recommended re-issue of a tale with classic elements that turn a predictable story on its head.” – Becky Condit/USA Today The year is 2009… Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells was my first published novel. It came out in February of that year. I had just gotten laid off from my job as a wine buyer for a large retail chain, and having this book start selling was really important validation for me. If you’ve ever been part of a big layoff (1/3 of our company) you know how demoralizing...

The Most Important 200 Words You Write: Craft Compelling Blurbs #writetip

Hate writing blurbs for your book? Join the club. But, there is a magic formula for writing blurbs and I’m going to show it to you. In fact, I’ll show you several “fill in the blank” templates if you need them, as well as discuss why each element is crucial to selling your book. Time to Get Dirty! Dirty Dining Pre-Order #Giveaway (#mmromance @dreamspinners) –

One of the most joyful experiences as an author (for me, at least) is knowing my book has the perfect cover. It’s not as easy as you might think. I’m not an artist and I generally have a difficult time conveying my vision to the cover artist. So I was absolutely delighted to discover this gorgeous photograph on Deviant Art. It perfectly illustrates my main character Jeremy Linden (my deceptively attractive geek) and the precise tone of Dirty Dining. In fact, Jeremy spends a lot of time in those little white shorts, until he takes them...

Even More Delectable? The Series Continues (#poll #mmromance)

It’s amazing to realize the Delectable Series has eight stories, including the two bonus editions. Though each one is a standalone, there are a few characters who cross into other stories briefly. I’m thinking it might be time for more interaction between the couples. What characters would you like to see meet in a future story? Who would you like to know more about? Leave a comment with your “dream scenario” for a cross over or an aspect of food and/or wine that you’d love to read about. I’ll choose a winner to get their...

#Poll Does Stormy Weather Make Good Romance? (#giveaway #mmromance)

It’s been pouring here in Northern California. We’re in a drought situation, so we really need it, but it’s no fun driving in the rain. I love hearing the rain on the roof when I’m snug and warm at home. Of course extreme weather can offer some nice opportunities for romance. I have a scene in Rarer Than Rubies where the main characters are stuck in a little hut during a monsoon rain. Talk about setting the mood. It worked perfectly for Trent and Reed–it was their first time together, way back when.  In Snow Job,...
